Description

This trek through the Inca trails that still exist in the Peruvian Andes is one of the 25 best travel experiences according to National Geographic magazine, suitable for lovers of long walks and adventures. These ancient paths take us through the slopes of the snow-capped mountains of the Salkantay chain, a natural environment full of rivers, lakes, flora and fauna, as well as impressive panoramic views, until we reach the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu.

Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO - MOLLEPATA - SORAYPAMPA

  • We will start this great adventure by picking you up from the hotel very early in the morning, we will start the bus trip to the district of Mollepata, this trip will take us a little more than 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Upon arrival in Mollepata we will recharge our batteries enjoying breakfast at a local restaurant, then we continue by bus for about 20 more minutes until we reach Cruzpata where we will begin the hike. We will walk about 2 hours until we reach the Sayllapata area where we will have lunch and take the opportunity to rest a bit and then continue with the walk.
  • On the way, we will appreciate a unique natural landscape, surrounded by snowy peaks, rivers and lagoons which originate in the Salkantay and Humantay mountains, we will walk until we reach Soraypampa where we will camp to later have dinner and rest to continue the next day.

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA - PASO SALKANTAY - CHAULLAY

  • We will get up early and after breakfast we will restart the hike, this day we will pass through the highest point of the route, the Salkantay pass that is 4543 meters above sea level, here we will make a brief stop to rest and enjoy the spectacular views of the landscape, the chain of mountains of Salkantay, Humantay, Tucarhuay and Pumasillo.
  • Then we will begin the descent that will take us about 2 hours until we reach the Wayramachay area where we will stop for lunch.
  • Finally we will continue our walk for 3 more hours until Chaullay where our second camp will be, here we will have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 3: CHAULLAY - LA PLAYA (SAWAYACO) - SANTA TERESA

  • We will get up early, have breakfast and start the day, this journey will take us about 5 hours until we reach Sawayaco, we will see abundant samples of orchids and waterfalls.
  • In the town of Sawayaco we will rest, this area is also called "the beach", here we will have lunch and then we will board a bus to reach the town of Santa Teresa where we will set up our camp to rest, optional you can visit the famous Hot springs of Santa Teresa only 4 km away.
  • When we return we will have dinner and rest in our camp.

DAY 4: SANTA TERESA - HIDROELÉCTRICA - AGUAS CALIENTES

  • We will start the day as always having breakfast, and we will start the walk to the archaeological site of Llactapata, which was recently discovered, this will take us about 3 hours.
  • Then we will walk 2 more hours until we reach the Hydroelectric, here according to our energies we will take the train that leaves us in Aguas Calientes in 20 minutes or we will walk for 3 more hours following the train tracks.
  • In Aguas Calientes you can rest at the hotel, the town has many dinner options, there will be a meeting with the guide to organize the visit to Machu Picchu the next day.

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES, MACHU PICCHU, CUSCO

  • We will start the day as early as possible, we will meet at the bus station with the guide to board the bus that will take us in 25 minutes to the entrance to Machu Picchu.
  • At the entrance gate to the archaeological park of Machu Picchu we will show our entrance ticket and we will make the tour through the most important points, it will be a fascinating experience that will take us just over 2 hours.
  • Then we will return to the town of Aguas Calientes to have lunch and get ready to go to the train station at the agreed time, the train trip from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo takes almost 2 hours, here our mobility will be waiting for us to take us to Cusco and be able to finish this unforgettable experience.

  • Pick up from your hotel in the morning and transfer by bus to Mollepata (day 1).
  • Big tents, these will only be used by 2 people for giving comfort, also 1 pillow and 1 blanket per person.
  • Trekking poles, which cannot be used in the visit to Machu Picchu.

  • Train ticket from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo.
  • Transfer by bus from Ollantaytambo to Cusco.

  • The first breakfast in Mollepata and the last lunch in Aguas Calientes.
  • Entrance ticket to the hot springs in Santa Teresa
  • Additional drinks: bottles of water, soft drinks, beers, chocolates.
  • An extra horse to ride or for any extra backpack.

  • Standard 35 liter backpack where you can carry: a hand or front lantern, your personal medications, water purification pills, toilet paper, etc.
  • Mosquito repellent, sunscreen and sunglasses.
  • Extra money in soles to buy bottles of water or to buy a souvenir.
